Joint rescue operations launched by the Indian Navy, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Indian Air Force were successful in safely rescuing all the passengers on board the Mahalaxmi express on Saturday, 27 July, which was halted near Badlapur in Maharashtra amid heavy rains.
Navy had sent several flood rescuing teams, including three diving teams with life jackets, inflatable boats and other rescue material. Two helicopters from the Air Force, along with two columns of the military also helped in rescuing the stranded people.
The Central Railway had tweeted saying that RPF, along with the local police, had distributed biscuits and water to the stranded passengers.
