Two days after the Special Investigation Team began probing the suspicious death of Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Commissioner, IAS Anurag Tewari, Lucknow SSP Deepak Kumar has said the slain IAS officer was not unearthing any scam.

The Times of India reported that after interrogating concerned officials, the SIT members could not establish that Anurag was trying to uncover any irregularities in the department as alleged by his family.

Twenty seven years old Anurag was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the early hours of 17 May outside a Lucknow guesthouse.

An SIT was formed following allegations made by the deceased IAS officer’s family.

The BJP, at the time of his death had said that Anurag was about to expose a massive Rs 2,000 crore scam when he died.

The following day, Uttar Pradesh’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna told the state Assembly that Anurag was close to uncovering a scam in the Karnataka government run by the Congress.

An investigating officer said that the IAS officer was suffering from bronchitis for two weeks before his death.

The SIT has also recovered Anurag’s personal laptop from his residence in Bengaluru located in Sanjay Nagar Police Station limits. It has been sent to Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Chandigarh for forensic documentation.

The post-mortem conducted on his body noted injuries on his lower lip, left cheek, and right hand and leg, and concluded that Anurag’s death had not been due to natural causes.

The mystery surrounding his death only grew murkier when an officer investigating the case told the media on Tuesday that the police had received information about Tewari’s death at 5.23 am rather than at 6.10 am.
