In a chilling incident that took place in north Delhi's Swaroop Nagar, an IAS aspirant abducted and killed his landlord's 7-year-old son and kept the body in a suitcase for over a month in his apartment, the Times of India reported.

The accused has been identified as one Avdesh Sakya, a 27-year-old civil services aspirant from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri. He had kidnapped the boy for ransom on 7 January, but changed his plan fearing police action and murdered the boy instead, just 15 minutes after kidnapping him.

Reports also suggest that he had a verbal argument with the child's father and was seeking revenge. An FIR about the kidnapping was registered on 7 January itself. Thereafter Sakya even helped the child’s family search for the boy, police said.

Sakya was arrested on Tuesday after his neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from his apartment.

Upon being confronted over the stench coming from his apartment, Sakya reportedly produced dead rats and also used perfume to hide the smell of the rotting body. The suitcase in which the 7-year-old's decomposed body was stuffed was found under the bed Sakya usually slept in.

Quoting a police statement, The Times of India report stated that Sakya had lured the boy into his apartment by promising him a bicycle. The Hindu also reported that the victim’s sister had told her parents a week after the incident that Sakya had promised him a bicycle on the day the boy went missing.

The family had suspected Sakya’s involvement in the case since the beginning, but did not inform anyone because he was actively helping in locating the boy.

According to The Hindu, Sakya smothered the boy with a muffler.
