The Alliance for Social Justice, a coalition between the Student Federation of India (SFI) and the Ambedkar Students Association, has reportedly won all five posts in the student body elections of the University of Hyderabad, defeating the ABVP.

According to an NDTV report, PhD scholar Sreerag Poickadan won the post of president, defeating both the ABVP and the NSUI candidate.

The other posts – vice president, general secretary, joint secretary, and sports and cultural secretary – were also bagged by the ASJ.

The university reportedly witnessed 75 percent voter turnout.

However, the candidature of vice president-elect has been disqualified due to poor attendance, reported Scroll.in.

“The most important thing about this result is that the whole central panel has three Dalits, two Muslims, and an Adivasi. This is a major shift the campus politics is witnessing these days,” said a student activist from HCU to NDTV.

Widespread protests erupted across the nation, accusing the University of Hyderabad of caste discrimination following the suicide of research scholar Rohith Vemula in January 2016.

The ABVP has lost the student body elections in Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, and Rajasthan University, which were held recently.
