Six people were killed in Chamoli's Ghat area following a cloudburst on Monday, 12 August, news agency ANI reported, quoting Uttarakhand's State Disaster Response Force.

Two buildings were swept away by the flooded Chuflagad river and roads leading to the Himalayan shrines were blocked by landslip debris, a PTI report said.

Debris of landslides triggered by heavy rains fell over three houses in Banjbagad, Aligaon and Lankhi villages in Ghat area of Chamoli district early on Monday, burying alive six people, including a woman and her nine-month-old daughter, state emergency operation centre (SEOC) reportedly said in Dehradun.

All of them suffocated to death, the SEOC said, adding that all the deceased except one were women.
