‘Honeypreet Paid Money to Incite Panchkula Violence’: Police
Honeypreet had allegedly paid Rs 1.25 crore to spark violence in Panchkula after the Dera chief was convicted.
Panchkula court on Tuesday, 10 October, sent Honeypreet Insan and another Dera follower, Sukhdeep Kaur, to a three-day police remand.
Honeypreet had allegedly paid a whopping Rs 1.25 crore to spark violence in Panchkula in August after Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted in two rape cases.
Honeypreet – Ram Rahim’s so-called adopted daughter – handed over the amount to Chamkaur Singh, the head of Dera Sacha Sauda's Panchkula branch, a couple of days ahead of Ram Rahim's conviction. This was revealed to the police by Rakesh Kumar, personal assistant-cum-driver of Ram Rahim, during interrogation, according to a Times of India report.
Police officials said the money was used to pay Dera followers to spark a riot in Panchkula to protest Ram Rahim’s conviction.
Rakesh is in the custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). He was arrested on 27 September. He accompanied Ram Rahim and Honeypreet to Panchkula on the day of the verdict. The next day of the verdict, on 26 August, he took Honeypreet from Rohtak to Sirsa.
At least 36 people were killed in the rioting.
AS Chawla, Commissioner of Police, Panchkula, told TOI that the violence was planned in the Dera headquarters in Sirsa.
Hard Disc Carried Information
The cyber cell of the Haryana Police has retrieved data from a computer hard disc, allegedly formatted by the Dera IT team. The hard disc has helped the police in getting the information revealing transactions of crores of rupees.
