Despite struggling with loans and earning a meager Rs 500 a day salary, J Ramulu, an auto-driver played a good Samaritan, by returning a bag full of cash worth Rs 10 lakh to the two passengers, who had mistakenly left it behind in his three-wheeler, The Times of India (TOI) reported.
To thank him for his honesty in returning the money, the two brothers – K Prasad and his K Kishore – who run a grocery store in Hyderabad, awarded him with Rs 10,000, the report added.
Narrating the incident to TOI, Ramulu said that after he had dropped the two brothers to their step, he noticed that they had left behind a bag in the passenger seat.
“I opened the bag only to see wads of currency notes. I was scared but by that time, I had almost reached Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) in Secunderabad where I operate from. I realised that the two passengers who hired my auto at JBS and got down at Gachibowli had forgotten the bag of cash. I drove non-stop back to Sri Ram Nagar Colony where they had got down from the auto.”Ramulu, Auto driver
Luckily, he found the brothers at the same spot he had dropped them, who by then had procured the help of some police personnel to look for the auto and the missing bag. Ramulu then handed over the bag, with the policemen also present.
Speaking about Ramulu’s honesty, one of the brothers - K Pandey told TOI that he and his brother own some land in Sri Ram Nagar Colony and that they had gotten the Rs 10 lakh for construction work on that land.
“I suffered a fracture on my leg recently and while getting down from the auto I experienced severe pain. While tending to it, we forgot about the bag and left it behind in the auto we were travelling in,” K Pandey told TOI.
When they realised, a few minutes later, they alerted the police. Just as the police started pulling up CCTV camera footage to identify the auto, Ramulu drove up to them and handed over the money, the report added.

“I could have enjoyed the amount for two years. But I do not want to lead such a life. So, I returned the cash,” Ramulu told TOI.
Ramulu also told the newspaper that he had taken a loan of Rs 1.5 lakh for his auto, which he was struggling to clear. With him earning Rs 500 a day, and his wife working as a labourer to run the household, which includes their two school-going children, Ramulu’s action of returning the money to its rightful owners, was truly act done of out good will.
