Amid the latest furore in which British daily The Independent decided to call Mumbai by its old ‘British’ moniker, Bombay, we must look back at why Canadian funnyman Russell Peters refrained from using the so-called ‘Indianised’ names of cities.

In 2008, Peters said on his Red, White and Brown show that he preferred calling ‘Mumbai’ ‘Bombay’ because “they did it (changed the names of the cities) ten years ago”.

The British left in 1947. If we really wanted to show we had b**ls, we would have done it the day they (the British) were leaving.
