Why is Hariyali Teej Celebrated?

Legend has it that Hariyali Teej celebrates the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Several sources claim that during this day, Goddess Parvati observed a strict fast and took 108 births so as to be able to marry Lord Shiva.

Women across the country fast for marital bliss, sing songs and prepare delicacies. Some women even observe a nirjala vrat on this day.
