Father of Hadiya, the Kerala woman who had converted to Islam and married a Muslim man in 2016, took official membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday, 16 December, after being a part of the party for four years.
KM Ashokan, while speaking to the The Quint, said he has been a part of the BJP since 2014 and has only taken the official membership now.

Ashokan had earlier approached the court alleging his 26-year-old daughter’s conversion was ‘love jihad’, even after she confirmed her consent to it.
Initially, the high court had annulled Akhila-turned-Hadiya’s marriage to Shefin Jahan and had sent her to her father’s custody.
The verdict was later struck down by the Supreme Court in June 2018, which allowed her to go with her husband.
