“Koi mujhe bacha lo,” screamed baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan, as he broke down in the makeshift court in the Sunaria Jail in Rohtak.
A hysterical Singh pleaded for mercy from the judge, insisting that he was innocent. A special CBI court judge awarded Singh 20 years in prison in two separate rape cases. In addition, Singh has been fined Rs 15 lakh each for the two cases.
Traumatised by the verdict, Singh reportedly threw tantrums in the courtroom, refusing to leave its premises.

The ‘Messenger of God’, finding himself at his wit’s end, screamed “thodi ji riyayat (have some mercy)” as he was dragged out of the court premises by security personnel.
As security personnel managed to wrest him out, Singh complained of uneasiness and demanded that his blood pressure be checked, reported News18. Following a medical examination – that found him physically healthy – Singh was reportedly allotted a jail cell and was given his prison uniform. He is not permitted to bring his own clothes into the prison.
The Dera Sacha Sauda chief was convicted by a special CBI court on Friday, in two 15-year-old rape cases. The violence perpetrated by his enraged followers or ‘premis’ following the verdict, claimed at least 38 lives, and injured 250 people.
