An Army Major and three soldiers were killed in north Kashmir’s Gurez while foiling an infiltration bid on Tuesday, 7 August, reported PTI quoting officials.
According to the officials, two terrorists were also killed in the operation, and the bodies of two more militants could be seen from a distance.
The incident reportedly took place at Govind Nallah in the Gurez Sector along the LoC when an Army patrolling party came across a group of militants.
Further reinforcements have been rushed to the encounter site.
The deceased have been identified as Major Kaustubh Prakash Kumar Rane, rifleman Mandeep Singh Rawat and Hameer Singh, and gunner Vikram Jeet Singh, reported ANI.
Initial reports said a group of eight was trying to infiltrate into the country. Of them, four ran back to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, officials said.
