BJP May Win 118 to 132 Seats in Gujarat Polls: Times Now Survey

The survey says 50 percent of those surveyed feel incumbent BJP ‘deserved’ to form the next government in Gujarat.

The Times Now-VMR pre-poll survey, conducted ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections scheduled to be held in December 2017, predicted 52 percent vote share for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and 37 percent vote share for the Congress.

The survey also estimates that the Narendra Modi-led party will win 118 to 132 seats, while the Congress will win 49 to 61 seats.

Forty percent of the 6,000 respondents who were surveyed in Gujarat felt that implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the note ban has adversely affected their lives.

While 28 percent feel that their lives have improved from the Centre’s move, 14 percent are of the opinion that their lives have only improved “a bit.”

The pre-poll survey reveals that 50 percent of those surveyed feel incumbent BJP “deserved” to form the next government, while 44 percent feel that Congress deserved to be in power.

Two percent of those surveyed were in favour of Shankerinh Vaghela, while one percent wanted the AAP to form the government.

Even after three years since he took oath as Prime Minister, Modi remains the favourite choice for ‘best Chief Minister’. Anandiben Patel followed Modi, with 20 percent of those surveyed favouring her.

The current Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, remained the least favourite with 13 percent giving him a thumbs up.

Responding to whether the Hardik Patel-led Patidar agitation changed their votes, 34 percent answered in the affirmative, while 26 percent were of the opinion that the agitation did not change their votes.

Around 41 percent felt that Patel should stay apolitical, while 28 percent feel that Patel should extend support to the Congress.
