Inspired by his enthusiasm, Microsoft Africa flew Richard to Singapore for the annual Microsoft Educators Exchange.

A teacher in Ghana who created ripples around the world by teaching computer technology without computers, has been gifted five computers, a laptop and books by the Ghana arm of the Indian company NIIT, Hindustan Times reported.

Richard Appiah Akoto’s school hadn’t had computers since 2011, but that did not deter him from attending to his duty. Akoto went on to intricately draw a Microsoft Word window on a blackboard in a class at the Betanese M-A Junior High School in Ghana’s Sekeydomase town, the report added. The image posted on social went viral and the gesture garnered much applause.

NIIT business head Yaw Amoateng and senior manager Sanjeev Mishra travelled to Sekyedomase to meet Akoto and his students and donate the computers on 12 March.

We saw the news going viral on Facebook and other social media platforms. We were so touched by the teacher’s dedication to his students that we decided to support the school with the best we could do as an IT training organisation.
Ashish Kumar, the NIIT centre manager in Accra, told HT

Kumar told Hindustan Times that this donation was part of NIIT Ghana’s CSR outreach programme.

The impact of Richard’s story continues to create waves across the world with other donors giving away computers and other requisite material to the school. Inspired by his zest, Microsoft Africa went a step further and flew Richard to Singapore for the annual Microsoft Educators Exchange.
