From pulling an all-nighter before semester exams to pushing out projects curated from the Internet, engineers are a risk-taking lot. But sometimes the risk-taking puts others at risk instead.
Like every profession, the world of engineers has its fair share of crazies. This Engineer’s Day, here’s looking at one such flag bearer – Abhinav Singh.
Singh was working in Australia, from where he’s being deported for stalking his boss’ daughter. He has also been fined 2,000 Australian dollars. Singh lived with his wife and their two children. His story is nothing short of a Shah Rukh Khan potboiler – but think along the lines of Darr and not Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
Singh stalked his employer’s daughter and sent her hundreds of text messages, phone calls and voice messages in Queensland’s Gladstone city. When the police and the victim’s father confronted him, and warned him of legal consequences, he went full k-k-k-k-Kiran.
Allegedly, Singh got the woman’s phone number by going through the office records. He’s also reported to have persistently called while he was on a holiday to India.
Police Prosecutor Nina Sulzer told Gladstone Magistrates Court that the woman was in no way involved with the man, and the assistance of the police was sought.
But that failed to deter Singh from his pursuit of ‘love’. In his defence he said that it was no fantasy, and he “was acting out of his heart.” He clearly forgot about his wife, who is a doctor in Rockhampton, Australia.
Ignoring all the police warnings and protest by the woman’s family, Singh unashamedly continued to contact the woman calling it his “right”. So wrong!
Now, Singh’s wife has contacted Immigration authorities, and he will be deported soon from Australia. Apart from the deportation and fine, he has also been ordered not to contact or go near the woman for two years.
His stupidity of behaviour will cause long-lasting consequences to his wife and children. He was here on a temporary resident’s visa.

Well, engineers do have a knack of going against the tide and trying their best to find a way. Abhinav just found his way out of Australia.
