People Who Walked to the Gallows After the Turn of the Century

The Indian Judicial system has executed four people after 2000 by hanging them to death.

Dhananjoy Chattopadhyay

Dhananjoy Chattopadhyay was sentenced to death for rape and murder of 14-year-old Hetal Parekh in Gujarat.

His execution prevented India from entering into the tenth year without execution by capital punishment, after 1995.

1995 marked the judicial execution of 13 people in a year.

He was hanged at Alipore Central Jail in Calcutta at 4:30 am on August 14, 2004, Saturday.

According to a report in The Hindu, the day was his 42nd birthday and he left behind a wife.

Afzal Guru

Mohammad Afzal Guru was hanged at the Tihar Central Jail on February 9, 2013 at 8 am, Saturday.

He was sentenced to death for planning the December 13, 2001 attack on the Parliament which claimed nine lives.

Afzal Guru was a resident of Sopore, Kashmir and is survived by his wife, Tabassum.

Ajmal Kasab

Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab was taken to the gallows for his part in the November 26, 2008 Lashkar-e-Taiba terror attacks in Mumbai that claimed 164 lives.

He was hanged on November 21, 2013 at 7:30 am, Thursday.

Kasab was a Pakistani national and lived with his mother and father before he joined the terror group.

Yakub Memon

Yakub Memon was hanged to death today morning, for his involvement in the March 12, 1993 terror attacks in Mumbai that claimed 257 lives.

Yakub Memon was hanged at the Nagpur Central Jail at 7:00 am today, on his 52nd birthday.

Yakub Memon’s wife and daughter recently visited him in the central jail where he was hanged.
