The Mumbai police have detained a group of six UK Nationals, who, in a video which went viral on Tuesday, 27 November, were seen jumping from one high-rise building to another, in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi, Mid-Day reported.
The “dangerous stunts” that the foreigners were seen doing in the video is commonly known as “parkour”, an activity or sport where one has to move extremely fast from one point to another, usually over obstacles in a complex urban environment.
According to the police, the six who have been detained, belong to a famous parkour group named Storror and have been identified as Max Cave, 26, Benj Storror Cave, 24, Callum Powell, 27, Toby Segar, 24, Sacha Powell, 24, Drew F Taylor, 24, Mid-Day reported. The six were reportedly in Mumbai for work-related meetings.
“Four of them had come for a conference at Worli. Two others came for a business trip,” an officer told Mid-Day.
After the video went viral on Tuesday, the police had identified the 20-storey building in the video as one of the buildings next to Prabhadevi station and reached out to the Housing society to record statements of the residents on whatever they knew about the group, the report added.
Speaking to India Today, the police said that they believed the video was shot on Sunday, 25 November.
“Such stunts are extremely dangerous and send out a very wrong message. Many of the residents have come forward complaining about it as they suspect they can be robbers as well. But it is actually a big group of 5-6 people performing stunts while others are filming them from different angles.”A police officer told India Today
What is Storrer?
Storrer is a UK-based professional parkour team, whose videos – including those where they’re seen jumping between rooftops of high-rise buildings across the world – have millions of views. Though this group originally seems to have seven members, the seventh member, Steven Whitley, was not seen in the Mumbai video.
They also run a clothing line under the same name, where they offer apparel suitable for parkour.
Going by their Instagram feed, the group travels around the world and records themselves as they parkour between buildings and other structures. While the Mumbai police have taken the statements of the six members, they have not filed a case against them.
