After Crackers, They Will Ban Hindu Cremations: Tripura Governor
Tathagata Roy said he was unhappy as a Hindu with the SC ruling banning sale of firecrackers ahead of Diwali.
"Soon, Hindu cremations will be banned," is what Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy tweeted on Tuesday, following the Supreme Court's ban on sale of firecrackers till 1 November in the Delhi-NCR region.
He stated that as a Hindu, he felt agitated hearing the news as Diwali comes only once in a year, as CNN News18 reported.
I personally feel very unhappy about these restrictions put on age old Hindu festivals. Diwali is an ancient, all India festival. We burst crackers to drive away spooks and a restriction is being put on it.
On the nature of the statement, he said he was "not crossing any constitutional limit" and that the governor of a state is not supposed to act mute.
