Fire Breaks out on Coast Guard Ship: 28 Rescued, One Still Missing

A fire broke out on Coast Guard’s Offshore Support Vessel Coastal Jaguar off Vishakhapatnam coast in Andhra Pradesh on Monday, 12 August, forcing the crew members to abandon the vessel and save themselves, according to ANI.

Twenty eight out of the 29 crew present onboard have been rescued, search for one missing member is underway.

ICGS Rani Rashmoni which was in the area was diverted to coordinate the rescue operation. ICGS Rani Rashmoni in coordination with the VPT boats rescued the distressed crew.

There was reportedly a loud explosion onboard Coastal Jaguar that was followed by thick smoke emanating from the vessel.

However, the exact cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.
