Ten persons, including two women, were killed and 13 others injured when a fire broke out in a hotel in Babaganj area in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh.
The incident occurred at about 4.30 am in Hotel Goyal Residency.
“We noticed the fire at around 5 am. A short circuit is the reason behind the fire,” said Balikaran Singh Yadav, Superintendent of Police (SP), adding that efforts were being made to identify the victims who were staying in the hotel.
The injured have been rushed to hospital, where the condition of seven was stated to be critical.
They were referred to the nearby Allahabad district for better treatment.
Pratapgarh is about 170 kms from state capital Lucknow.
