Delhi Police have registered an FIR against the immigration officer who had allegedly sexually harassed a woman passenger from Bengaluru.
The FIR was filed under sections 354A, 354D and 506 after police received an email complaint from the victim.
The immigration officer, identified as Vinod Kumar, had asked the woman some sexually explicit questions while checking her passport. The woman was on her way to Hong Kong.
The Bengaluru-based woman in her complaint to the police has said,
I would like to complain about an immigration officer who verbally sexually harassed me. He did that not only during the immigration process at the desk, but also by following me along the travelator between domestic and international terminal. This happened on March 19 at 9:30 pm.
According to the woman, the officer asked her private questions. The questions ranged from whether the complainant smokes to whether she would be willing to have his child.
Taking cognisance of the incident, the Home Ministry had placed the immigration officer under suspension and has ordered a departmental inquiry.
However, on interrogation, the official denied that he had spoken to complainant by leaving his desk. He also said that he had not followed her on the travelator.
