(CORRECTION: An earlier version of the article, quoting ANI, incorrectly stated that the father of a teenage girl from Agra, suffering from aplastic anaemia, was granted Rs 30 lakh by the Prime Minister’s Office. The article has been corrected to reflect that the family was only granted Rs 3 lakh back in September 2018. The errors are regretted. The article has been further edited for clarity.)

Months after Sumer Singh, the father of an ailing teenage girl from Agra, was granted Rs 3 lakh by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for the treatment of his daughter – who is suffering from aplastic anaemia – he is still reeling under massive financial pressure.

In September 2018, after the intervention of Etah MP Rajveer Singh – who wrote to the PMO seeking financial assistance – the father was granted Rs 3 lakh.

The father told ANI on 22 June: “If the government can’t help, I only ask for death.”

Aplastic anaemia is a rare and serious condition in which the body stops producing enough new blood cells. This increases the risk of infections and uncontrolled bleeding.
