Ex-Maharashtra DGP Dattatray Padsalgikar Appointed as New Dy NSA

Padsalgikar has earlier played a critical role in gathering evidence in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

The Government of India has appointed Ex-Maharashtra DGP Dattatray Padsalgikar as the new Deputy NSA (internal security).

A senior IPS officer of the 1982 Maharashtra cadre, Padsalgikar was earlier appointed the DGP of Maharashtra on 30 June 2018. He had succeeded Satish Mathur as the Maharashtra Police DGP. The Hindu reports that he was earlier on deputation to the central government in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) before being named as the new Mumbai police commissioner in 30 January 2016.

Padsalgikar started his career as the Additional Superintendent of Police in Nagpur, Karad and Nashik, after which he was promoted and went on to serve as Superintendent of Police in Osmanabad and Satara, before his stint with the IB.

Mr Padsalgikar hails from a town on the Solapur-Bijapur border. According to The Hindu, he has a master’s degree in French literature from Pune.

His Wikipedia page also says that he is an excellent badminton player and an athlete.  

Known as an honest and upright officer with experience in counter-terror operations. Padsalgikar has earlier played a critical role in gathering evidence against Pakistani non-state actors in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

He has also served as the DCP (detection) in Mumbai, apart from serving some time in the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police.
