The Vice President of the European Parliament, Ryszard Czarnecki, wrote an article on EP Today and assumed an anti-Pakistan stance. Justifying the Indian action, he observed that terrorist organisations form Pakistan provoked India with two major attacks on the Indian Army bases – Pathankot in January and Uri in September.

The Pakistan government’s response to India’s statement was on expected lines. A spokesman of the Pakistan military described India’s announcement as “totally baseless and a complete lie”, adding that “the notion of surgical strikes linked to alleged terrorist bases is an illusion being deliberately generated by India to create false effects”.

Czarnecki claims that Pakistan has been in denial about being home to terror groups in the first place. Therefore, Pakistan is also denying the neutralisation of terror launchpads through surgical strike. Slamming Pakistan’s statement further, Czarnecki claimed that the Pakistan establishment is in support of some of the terror groups as has been reported by the international media.

Terror groups like Afghan Taliban, Haqqani network, and the Hizbul Mujahideen, are on the European Union’s terror list, in addition to the years-old Lashkar-e-Taiba or Jaish-e-Muhammad.

Czarnecki also hold the proximity between the state of Pakistan and the terror organosations responsible for the increase in influence of these organisations on the youth of Pakistan.

He claims that the blatant threats by the youth in the country to the western world is done with the permission of the state.

He sites three instances as examples of the adverse effect of support of terror on the youth of Pakistan.

  • Mohd Usman Ghani by the Austrian police for his links to the Paris terror attack in November 2015.
  • Arrest of 18 Pakistan nationals by the Italian security agencies in 2015 for their association with international terrorism.
  • Arrest of 3 Pakistani nationals by the Spanish police in July 2016 for spreading jihadist ideology.

Czarnecki establishes that the Indian government is not after the Pakistan state but against the terrorist organisations.

The Vice President of European Parliament concludes the article by reiterating his support for India’s cross-border action. He asked other nations to support India while he appeals the European Union to maintain pressure on Pakistan.
