19 thermal plants violating green norms:
An estimated 10 percent of India’s 200 thermal power plants have been found to be non-compliant with guidelines such as installation of pollution control equipment.

Most polluted city? Not anymore:
New air quality data reveals that Delhi has lost the dubious distinction of being the world’s most polluted city. The city now ranks 11th, but Gwalior and Allahabad are in the 2nd and 3rd positions on the list.

The government has released a draft policy for making upcoming small buildings eco-friendly. The new policy includes aspects like rain-water harvesting and waste management.

The government has launched a web app called Integrated Waste Management System to track the way in which hazardous and other wastes are being moved and managed.

Supreme Court to consider lifting luxury vehicle ban:
The SC has agreed to consider modifying its order banning the registration of luxury vehicles but said that a small environmental cess would be imposed on the cars instead. The Court also agreed to hear a new proposal to phase out diesel taxis in the city.

30 lakh fine on paper mill:
The NGT has imposed the fine to penalize the mill for releasing toxic effluents beyond permitted norms into a local Nainital stream. The money will be used as environmental compensation to restore the area.

Sea level rise sinks 5 Pacific islands:
Scientists have linked a rise in sea levels to the sinking of five of the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean. The sea levels here have been rising twice as quickly due to global warming and natural climatic cycles.
