Even as the country is witness to a staggering rise in the number of job-seekers, the national average for placements across employment exchanges stands at a dismal 0.57 percent. This translates into 3 jobs for every 500 applications.
According to an Indian Express report, Gujarat leads the race for providing placements to applicants registered with its employment exchanges at 30 percent. Similarly, as per data released by the Labour Ministry, Tamil Nadu has the maximum seekers for employment, with 80 lakh applicants registering with the National Career Service (NCS) portal in 2015 till September.
The NCS portal allows for placements through employment exchanges dealing in over 3,000 occupations across 53 government and private sectors.
According to the Labour Ministry report, after Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttra Pradesh and Kerala had the highest number of applicants, with the five states contributing a cumulative 60 percent to the total number of applications in the employment exchanges. Of these applications, only 0.1 percent managed placements, translating to 27,600 placements.
The report, which has data spanning from 2012 to 2015, further records a steady decline in placement rate, with 0.95 percent in 2012 to 0.57 percent in 2015. However, of this, Gujarat made up for 83.3 percent of the total placements, while Maharashtra came second with 13,400 placements.
As per the ministry report there are around 997 employment exchanges across the country.
