The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets worth Rs 742 crore belonging to the Maran brothers in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case.

Former Union Textiles Minister and DMK leader, Dayanidhi Maran, and his brother Kalanithi Maran, were charge-sheeted in the 2G spectrum case by the CBI in August 2014, for the offences punishable under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and under relevant provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

The CBI alleges that Dayanidhi Maran had “pressured” and “forced” telecom promoter C. Sivasankaran to sell his stakes in Aircel and two subsidiary firms to Malaysian firm Maxis Group in 2006.
