Delhi is no stranger to those who enjoy voyeurism and neither does it have a proven track record in being safe for women.
On 18 October, a so-called culture-ist shared a video on Facebook of a couple who were standing together in the Delhi metro, shaming the woman.
Another user named “Baba Marx” called him out as indulging in criminal activities by posting such content online, without the person’s consent and a perpetrator of rape culture.
Another user, Tarun, proved to be a good samaritan and wrote to Facebook, asking them to take the video down as a violation of the people’s privacy, as reported by DailyO.
The company took notice as within hours of receiving the complaint, the video was taken down.
Clearly, we continue to be a society that shames women for anything they do, inside or outside their homes, yet not a finger is pointed towards a man, who may be with the woman in question.
Thankfully, people, who stand up for women’s defence when they see sexist behaviour prevailing, do exist.
