Driving Drunk? Delhi Police’s Special Drive Is out to Get You 

The targeted checking by traffic police will be in certain areas of South Delhi and prominent malls of Delhi.

Well it’s TGIF. But Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) is on a mission for the welfare of the capital city. They are starting a special drive against drunken driving starting Friday. The main objective of this mission is to have zero tolerance towards this offence.

According to a Times of India report, 70 percent drivers challaned for this offence had a Delhi driving licence, over 60 percent of the violators were private vehicle owners, and 50 percent of the cases in south Delhi were from areas around farmhouses near Mehrauli, followed by markets around GK, Lajpat Nagar, Defence Colony and Hauz Khas.

As a result of these numbers, the targeted checking by traffic police will be in areas like Khan Market, Connaught Place, GK 1, GK 2, Defence Colony, Rajouri Garden, Nehru Place, Hauz Khas Village and prominent malls of Delhi. Police teams equipped with alcometers will check motorists and strict action will be taken against the defaulters.

For the convenience of Delhites, DTP has tied up with taxi aggregators like Uber to put up stalls outside select locations so that people can avail this facility with ease.

The crime which not only endangers the life of the driver, but also other road users has already claimed thousand of lives.

As per an India Today report, the menace of drunken driving has worsened manifold in the city and this is evident from the fact that prosecution numbers went from 1,535 in 2001 to over 28,000 in 2016.
