The Delhi metro will soon be opening a new section of its Pink Line, making travel easier to some of the popular markets in the capital, including South Extension and Sarojini Nagar.
According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the 8.1-km-long stretch of the Pink Line connecting Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus and Lajpat Nagar will be thrown open to the public in July. This comes just four months after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the first corridor of the line – between Majlis Park and Durgabai Deshmukh South campus – in March.
Among the prominent stations coming under the new stretch are Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar. The opening of this stretch will also mean that two stations will become interchange stations – Lajpat Nagar (connected to the Violet Line) and INA (connected to the Yellow Line).
The link to the INA metro station also means that the travel to and from Gurugram, which is covered by the Yellow line, will become easier.
A DMRC spokesperson said that the trial runs for the new stretch are currently underway.
The necessary documentation for the inspection by Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is being completed and some other mandatory prior approvals are being taken right now.DMRC spokesperson, as quoted by The Times of India
As far as the rest of the 58-km-long Pink Line is concerned, the stretch between Trilokpuri and Shiv Vihar is expected to be completed in August, while the stretch between Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 may be completed in September, the DMRC told the media.
However, the DMRC official was quoted by The Hindu as saying:
The section between Trilokpuri and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 is not ready due to land issues at Trilokpuri.
