1. Man Beaten to Death, Accused Held

A 26-year-old man was beaten to death allegedly by a 27-year-old man after the victim’s shoulder brushed against the accused’s on Sunday afternoon, 26 August, in outer Delhi’s Nangloi, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as Jeetu. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Rajinder Singh Sagar said the accused has been arrested. He has been identified as Deepak.

He collects cash at public convenience outlets in Nangloi. The police received a call around 4 pm and were informed about a person lying unconscious in an open space in JJ Colony. They reached the spot and the victim was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

2. Mumbai: 22-Year-Old Arrested for Allegedly Stalking, Molesting Girl

A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stalking, molesting and attacking a 19-year-old girl in Malad.

Police said the accused had made several phone calls to her over the last two months. When he failed to get any response from her, the accused allegedly attacked her on Tuesday, 21 August, they added. The man and the victim live in the same locality. “On Tuesday when the woman was on her way to college, the accused allegedly stopped her and demanded to know why she was not responding to his calls,” a police official said.

When she tried to walk away, he caught her hand and allegedly groped her, the police added.

3. Another Baby from Khunti Shelter Home Dies in Ranchi, Toll Reaches 3

Another infant of Sahyog Village, a government-aided shelter home in Khunti district, died at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), while seven children were admitted to a Ranchi-based private hospital following complications from being underweight, officials said on Sunday, 26 August. This is the third death in a week.

The shelter home, on 19 August, witnessed deaths of two infants including a six-month-old girl, who was shifted by the Ranchi child welfare committee (CWC) from a Missionaries of Charity (MoC) run shelter home-Shishu Bhawan, Hinoo to Sahyog Village following an alleged baby-selling incident at Nirmal Hriday in first week of July.

4. Four Boys in Rohtak Gurukul Allege Sexual Assault

Four boys, aged between 10-12, studying in a gurukul in Haryana’s Rohtak have accused their seniors and staff of sexually and physically assaulting them over a prolonged period of time.

A case has been lodged at Sadar police station based on the complaint of two of the victims under sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Superintendent of Police (Rohtak) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa told The Hindu that four students had approached the police accusing their seniors and staff of sexually assaulting them, and beating and threatening to kill them.

5. Woman Alleges Man Raped Her Multiple Times on Pretext of Job

After allegedly being raped multiple times on the pretext of a job offer and intimidated with defamation by the accused – who filmed the incidents and threatened to send the videos to her family – a woman in her late 20s has registered a complaint at the Vasant Kunj (North) police station. The accused has been arrested, said police.

She alleged that in the span of a year, she was raped in multiple hotels by a man who claimed to be a supervisor at the Delhi airport and offered her a permanent job.

6. Gang of Five Takes Car Loans, Goes Underground

Delhi Police is investigating a curious case of financial fraud where at least five people bought vehicles from Tata Motors Finance Limited on loan, but defaulted on payments around the same time and went underground. During verification, the firm learnt that the five men had close links and had created fictitious identities to avail of the loans.

The suspects allegedly created two fake companies — Merck Life Sciences and Kogta Import & Export — and forged Know Your Customer documents, such as salary slips, identity card, address proof and bank statements.

7. DJ Shoots Girlfriend, Tries to Pass off Murder as Accident

Suspecting her of having an affair, a man allegedly shot dead his 18-year-old girlfriend in north Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh, police said on Sunday, 26 August. Police officials said the man tried to convince eyewitnesses as well as investigators that he “accidentally” fired at the woman.

In his attempt to pull off the “perfect murder”, 29-year-old Pradeep Sehrawat would “practice” firing an empty pistol in front of his friends so that when he finally shot his girlfriend, he could claim it was an accident, said deputy commissioner of police (north-west) Aslam Khan.

Sehrawat’s alleged plan included two eyewitnesses who he thought would back his “concocted story”, but one of them decided to blow the lid.

“Sehrawat tried control every aspect of Thakur’s life. He was often was jealous and would beat her if he suspected her of speaking to any other man,” said the DCP.

8. Vendor Shot at in Rohini

A 20-year-old man was accidentally shot at when a group of assailants opened fire at another man in Rohini’s Alipur on Sunday, 26 August, the police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said Santosh, a vendor, sustained a bullet injury in his toe and is said to be stable.

A PCR call was made at 11.45 am by one Dheeraj Tokas who told the police that he had gone to pick up his wife and children from Singhu border when some men in three cars stopped him.

9. Colonel Duped by Man Posing as Associate

A Colonel in the Indian Army was duped through a phishing call, where the caller posed as the Armyman’s associate, and asked for money claiming that he was stranded in Vrindavan.

Thinking that his friend was in trouble, the Colonel paid Rs 6,000 through a series of Paytm transactions. However, when the accused kept demanding for more money, the Colonel called up the friend only to find out that he never visited Vrindavan in the first place.

A case has been registered at South Avenue police station under sections 66 C and 66 D of the IT Act (2000), and IPC sections 419 and 420, said police.
