1. Ajmer Man Kills Sister, Dumps Her in Dry Well

In a shocking case of honour killing in Sambhar Lake area, a brother was arrested for beating his 35-year-old sister to death before dumping her body in a dry well a fortnight ago.

The Jaipur rural police said that they have arrested one Hari Ram, a resident of Roopangarh, from Ajmer.

“Hari Ram’s sister Saroj had an affair with one Nand Ram who lived in Nagaur district. He had fought with his sister over this and decided to kill her,” said an official.

2. CBI Opposes Dawood Aide’s Plea for Lawyer

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) counsel on Monday opposed the applications filed by the advocate of 1993 blasts accused Farooq Takla.

The applications pertain to providing him legal counsel and not making a confessional statement. Takla is in CBI custody till 19 March.

The prosecution, on behalf of the CBI, filed the reply before the special TADA court, stating that the accused cannot claim the right to absolute silence and prevent criminal investigation of the heinous crime.

3. Kannauj: Youth Held for ‘Sodomising, Killing’ Two Boys, Attempting Rape

A 19-year-old youth has been arrested in Kannauj for allegedly murdering two minor boys after sodomising them and also trying to rape a nine-year-old girl during the last 17 days. The accused, Farrukhabad resident Ramji, was arrested on Sunday from Purvi bypass in Kannauj. Police said that in all the three cases, the youth had lured the victims by offering them sweets.

Police said on 23 February, Ramji allegedly murdered a seven-year-old boy after sexually assaulting him in Kamalganj area of Farrukhabad. On 2 March, he allegedly killed a five-year-old boy after sodomising him in Sadar Kotwali area of Kannauj. The next day, locals caught him at Kannauj’s Gursahaiganj area while he was allegedly trying to rape the minor girl.

4. Man’s Charred Body Found in Forest Near Agra Fort

A 40-year-old man’s charred body was found in the forest on the banks of river Yamuna near Agra Fort on Monday.

The victim was identified as Raees-ud-din Qureshi, an auto-rickshaw driver.

According to police, after murdering the victim, the killers dumped the body and attempted to destroy his identity by setting his body on fire. His body was found by local youth who were passing by and they informed ‘Dial 100’ about the body.

5. Uber Driver Locks Woman Inside Cab in Delhi, Sexually Harasses Her

A 24-year-old woman who called an Uber cab was allegedly locked inside the car by its driver who sexually harassed and threatened her, Delhi Police said on Monday. When the woman tried to escape, the driver allegedly prevented her by activating the car’s central locking system.

Aslam Khan, deputy commissioner of police (north-west), said the accused driver was arrested from a Haryana village where he was found drunk. “The accused driver has been identified as Sanjeev alias Sanju. He was driving the cab despite not being registered with Uber,” said Khan.

6. Police Seizes Mohammed Shami’s Phones, Seeks Details From the BCCI

The Kolkata Police has sent a letter to the BCCI, asking for Mohammed Shami’s whereabouts — the stopovers and places visited — after the series in South Africa. Police have also seized the mobile phone allegedly belonging to Shami in connection with the probe against him on the basis of allegations made by his wife Hasin Jahan. The mobile allegedly has the call list and chat records between the India fast bowler and various women.

“We have sent a letter to the BCCI and (we are) waiting for their response. We have sought details of his (Shami) tours and routes. We are yet to receive any response from the body,” Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Crime) Praveen Tripathi said on Monday.

7. Illegal Arms Factory Busted, 5 Nabbed, 4 Pistols Seized

Mathura police on Monday busted an illegal arms factory in Nagla Utawar village under Kosi Kalan police station and arrested five men with four country-made pistols. The gang allegedly supplied weapons to different parts of the country.

The items seized from them included ten bullets of .315 and .312 bore, springs, hammers and welding rods. Apart from this, other raw material for making weapons were also found.

According to police, they conducted a raid at the place in the morning after receiving a tip-off about an illegal arms factory operating there. “Our team raided the spot and arrested the men with pistols and manufacturing equipment,” said a senior police official. SP (rural) Aditya Shukla said that the Gangster Act will be invoked against the accused.

8. 23-Year-Old Arrested for Forging, Selling Educational Certificates

Delhi Police crime branch on Monday said they have arrested a 23-year-old commerce graduate, who allegedly prepared fake educational certificates of various universities and colleges and sold them to potential clients.

More than 300 certificates and marksheets of several educational institutions across the country, excluding Delhi, were recovered from the arrested man, identified as Kapil Goyal. The institutions included Singhania University of Rajasthan, Monad University of Hapur, Manav Bharti University of Himachal Pradesh, University of Guwahati.

Police confirmed that no involvement of any staffer of these institutes was found during the probe.

9. Man Arrested for ‘Duping’ Women on Facebook

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly duping several women on Facebook. The police said the accused created a fake profile of a woman, following which he would approach women via Facebook. The accused would make them believe that their family is about to face a financial difficulty. He would allegedly meet them on the pretext of carrying out rituals to save their family but escaped with their cash and valuables.

The accused, identified as Bhikan Namdev Mali, is a vegetable vendor in Dhule. The police said the accused has been committing such offences for the last three years. However, it was brought to light in October last year after a 29-year-old accountant approached Mumbai police.
