1. Mumbai Man Sets Wife on Fire Over Suspected Extramarital Relationship

A man has been arrested for setting his wife on fire in front of their three-year-old son in Mumbai’s Bandra over a suspected extramarital relationship, police said on Wednesday, 27 November.

The 32-year-old man identified as Mohammed Akhlaq Nasim Qureshi was arrested on Tuesday evening and will be produced before the court on Wednesday.

According to police officials, neighbours of Akhlaq tried to stop the fight and save the 23-year-old Maryam Qureshi late on Monday night but it did not help. When they saw Maryam on fire inside Akhlaq’s house, the neighbours contacted the police control room.

2. Missing Teenage Girl Found Dead in Hyderabad, Police Suspect Suicide

A 16-year-old girl, reported missing since 26 November, was found dead near the compound wall of a residential complex in Hyderabad on Wednesday, 27 November, police said.

They said preliminary investigation indicated that she had committed suicide by jumping from a floor of the building.

A detailed investigation was underway to ascertain the cause of death, police said.

The girl's mother, who works as a house-maid in a flat in the complex, said she filed a missing person complaint on Tuesday night after her daughter failed to return home. Police said CCTV footage showed the girl entering the complex and they were further probing the matter.

3. Delhi: Man ‘Kills 20-Year-Old Wife’, Parents Misled for Weeks

After their 20-year-old daughter went missing for two weeks, her parents were told she had gone off to France with her husband. On Tuesday night, however, the decomposing body of Nancy Sharma was found surrounded by unkempt bushes near Panipat refinery in Haryana. The accused: Her 21-year-old husband Sahil Chopra, whom she had a love marriage in March.

According to police, Nancy went missing on 11 November, when she was shot dead, allegedly by Sahil.

“The woman’s father suspected something was wrong and he finally filed a complaint on Tuesday, 26 November. He told us his son-in-law and his parents had been torturing Nancy for months. Call records were checked, and Chopra was questioned and arrested after a few hours,” DCP (West) Deepak Purohit said.

4. Ex-Armyman Among 2 Held in Scam to Recruit Men

A retired armyman and two others were arrested for allegedly helping people seeking recruitment into the Indian Army get fake documents for verification. Police said Aadesh Kumar, Luv Kumar and Pramod Kumar allegedly asked money from people who wanted to join the army, but did not fulfill certain criteria.

Aadesh retired from the army as a Hawaldar in 2016, and allegedly started the scam the same year, police said.

“The modus operandi of the fraud involved creating fake documents like domicile certificates, so that people could be recruited from various regions. The accused ran a coaching centre in Bulandshahr, through which people would come to know of what they offered. We have shared information with army officers and are ascertaining details,” said Vaibhav Krishna, SSP, Gautam Budh Nagar.

5. Chandigarh: Biker Fined Rs 14,500 Under Seven Offences After Mocking Traffic Cop on Duty

Chandigarh traffic police on Wednesday, 27 November, slapped a fine of Rs 14,500 against a motorcyclist, who, along with two pillion riders, escaped after “mocking” a policeman who signalled them to stop at Sector 25/38 dividing road.

The traffic offender, Vikrant, a resident of Sector 25, was slapped Traffic Violation Information Slip (TVIS) for seven offences: triple riding, driving without helmet, disobeying traffic signal, driving on wrong side, driving on cycle track, dangerous driving and endangering the life of other with negligent driving.

Police have not taken any action against the pillion riders. According to the Motor Vehicle Act, 1989, action for traffic violation can be taken only against the driver.

6. Tantrik Gets Seven Years Rigorous Imprisonment for Dalit Farmer’s Death

Justice was delayed but not denied. Ayodhya’s Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes special court on Tuesday awarded seven years jail term to a tantrik, Shankar Dutt alias Khuti Pandey, 50, who caused the death of an ailing Dalit man by practising his ‘supernatural powers’ on the pretext of medical treatment over 18 years ago.

The officials said Pandey was convicted after examining several witnesses and sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

They said the convict was also slapped with a penalty of ₹5,000 and extra three months of jail term if he failed to deposit the amount.

The officials said he was however acquitted from the charges of atrocities against a member of a scheduled caste.

7. Rajasthan Woman Given Triple Talaq , Then Raped By In-Laws: Police

A woman in Rajasthan has alleged that she was raped by her father-in-law and another relative, while her husband pronounced ''talaq'' to her thrice, all in the same day.

According to an FIR, the 25-year-old woman alleged that she was given triple talaq by her husband.

When she objected, her father-in-law and his brother allegedly raped her, the police said. She was also beaten up by her brother-in-law.

8. Four-Year-Old Girl Killed Over a Pair of Gold Earrings in Bengal

A four-year-old girl was allegedly killed for a pair of gold earrings by two women neighbours in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, the police said on Wednesday, 27 November.

The two women, who are neighbours of the girl's family in Khargram, have been arrested and remanded to police custody for two days, said officer-in-charge of Khargram police station, Kartick Majhi.

The blood-stained body of the girl, missing since Tuesday afternoon, was found early on Wednesday.

"The two accused, who were neighbours of the girl's family, strangulated her to death," Majhi told IANS over phone.

9. Gangster Arrested After Encounter in Greater Noida, AK-47 Seized: Police

A shooter of the notorious Randeep Bhati gang, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was arrested after an encounter with a team of police and Special Task Force personnel in Greater Noida on Wednesday, officials said.

Umesh Pandit was injured in the exchange of fire that took place in Bisrakh area, they said.

"The operation was based on information from the Special Task Force and the district police provided local support in catching the gangster," said senior superintendent of police, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Vaibhav Krishna.

Pandit, a notorious criminal, was involved in multiple cases, including gang wars in western Uttar Pradesh around 2011, he said.
