1. Aurangzeb Murder: 3 Soldiers Held, ‘Lens on More’

Three soldiers of 44 Rashtriya Rifles are being questioned by the Army over the kidnapping and killing of Rifleman Aurangzeb by terrorists in J&K last June, according to media reports.

The three soldiers have been detained, sources said. They revealed that the Army suspects the RR soldiers shared information about Aurangzeb and that more men may be involved in tipping off the terrorists about the rifleman’s movements, reports Saleem Pandit.

Defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia told TOI the Army certainly was conducting a probe into circumstances that led to the abduction and murder of Aurangzeb of 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry who had been seconded to 44 RR. Sources identified the three soldiers as Abid Wani, Tajamul Ahmad and Adil Wani.

2. Cops Detain Assistant Director After Wife's Body Parts Found in Garbage Truck

Sixteen days after the severed limbs of a woman were found in a garbage truck, Chennai city police on Wednesday said they had identified the deceased as Sandhya of Thoothukudi. Police have detained her husband Balakrishnan, an assistant film director, and are interrogating him.

Police said Sandhya had come to Chennai with dreams of becoming an actor. She was living with Balakrishnan in Jafferkhanpet in the city. Their son is a Class 12 student and their daughter is in class 5. Balakrishnan is alleged to have murdered her after a fight.

3. Man Held for Robbing Briton in Metro

A 34-year-old man was arrested on charges of stealing a British woman tourist’s purse that contained £3,900, three ATM cards and her driving licence while she was at the Rajouri Garden Metro station last week, the police said Wednesday.

Police said the man, identified only by his first name Manish, was previously involved in a rape case registered at the Uttam Nagar police station. He had exchanged the stolen pounds sterling into Indian currency. A total of ₹3.18 lakh was recovered from his possession, police said.

Deputy commissioner of police (Metro and Railways) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said on 1 February, the British woman Marmar, identified by a single name, lodged a complaint that her purse was stolen from the Metro station.

4. 2 Held for Extorting Money from Bootleggers in Delhi

Two members of the Sadam Gauri gang were arrested for allegedly extorting money from bootleggers and gamblers on the pretext of providing them security, police said on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as Pankaj (22) and Karan (21), both residents of Hastal in Uttam Nagar, they added.

Acting on a tip-off that the accused would come near the Nawada metro station on the intervening night of February 4 and 5, the police nabbed the duo, Additional Commissioner of Police (crime) Rajiv Ranjan said.

5. Ansal Booked in Passport Fraud Case

The city police on Wednesday informed the Delhi high court that an FIR has been lodged against real estate baron Sushil Ansal for not disclosing the details of the criminal cases pending against him to obtain a passport in 2013.

The police also told the court that besides Sushil Ansal, who was convicted of the Uphaar cinema fire incident in 1997, three other police officials have also been named in the first information report for giving a favourable verification report despite the criminal cases pending against Ansal.

The affidavit filed by the police has also stated that when “clear” verification report was given to Ansal in 2013, three criminal cases — including the Uphaar fire tragedy matter — were pending against him.

6. Delhi Man Run Over by ‘Speeding’ Car, 20-Year-Old Student Held

A 67-year-old man died after he was hit by a vehicle, allegedly being driven by a 20-year-old BBA student, near Haiderpur Metro station on Monday evening. Police said the victim, who was crossing the road, was flung 10 feet into the air and landed a little distance away. He succumbed to his injuries Tuesday.

The driver was arrested from the spot and her car was impounded. Prima facie it appears the vehicle was being driven at a high speed, police said. According to police, the victim, Harkesh Kumar, lived with his family in Jahangirpuri and was undergoing treatment at a hospital.

“The incident took place when Kumar was returning home after meeting a doctor. Around 5.15 pm, he was crossing the road near the Metro station when he was hit by the vehicle,” a senior police officer said.

During the investigation, eyewitnesses said that they saw the victim being thrown into the air.

7. Despite CCTVs, Jeweller’s Shop Robbed for Second Time

After his jewellery store was burgled in 2016, Ashok Kumar Soni installed six CCTV cameras inside and outside his shop at central Delhi’s Anand Parbat. Three years later, early Tuesday morning, the store was burgled again —allegedly by 13 people.

“Apart from gold and silver jewellery, Rs 4 lakh in cash is also missing. We have accessed the CCTV footage and registered a case. No arrests have been made yet,” said M S Randhawa, DCP (Central).

He said “not more than four-five men committed the crime.” An FIR has been registered at Anand Parbat police station.

8. Murder Case Registered After Woman Found Dead at Home

Bhiwandi Police in the district has registered a case of murder in connection with the death of a 21-year-old woman.

Sapna Rajkumar Gautam was found dead at her house with injuries on her neck Tuesday when her husband was away at work.

The police earlier thought it was a suicide or an accidental death.

However, the autopsy report suggested that it was a murder, said sub-inspector Sandeepan Sonawane of Shanti Nagar police station.

9. Auto Driver Shot Dead in Delhi's Shahdara by Bike-Borne Men

A 28-year-old auto driver was shot dead by two bike borne men in Delhi's Shahdara, police said Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Rohit, a resident of Geeta Colony area.

He sustained single bullet injury, Meghna Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), said.

The incident happened on Tuesday night in Krishna Nagar area when Rohit was returning home after dropping off passengers. The incident was captured in a CCTV camera, which was installed in the area, a senior police officer said.
