1. BJP Leader Shiva Kumar and His Guard Shot Dead in Greater Noida

A BJP leader named Shiva Kumar and his security guard were shot dead by bike-borne assailants in Bisrakh area of Greater Noida on Thursday, 16 November.

According to a Times of India report, Kumar, also the headman of Tigri village, was in his Toyata Fortuner SUV when he was shot at. The firing reportedly continued for around half a kilometre and Kumar died on the spot.

An owner of two schools in Haibatput, the BJP leader was returning from one of them when the incident occurred. His car veered and hit a divider after the shots were fired.

2. Former IT Company Employee Sexually Assaulted Over 50 Women: Chennai Police

Chennai police on Thursday said a 28-year-old former employee of a software company they had arrested for robbery was a serial rapist who could have sexually assaulted up to 50 women in Chennai.

Investigators stumbled upon the crimes of Madhan Arivalagan, a native of Mathur in Krishnagiri district, after they took him in for questioning in connection with a mugging, inspected his cellphone, and were stunned by what they found recorded on the device.

"Arivalagan sexually assaulted women after trapping them alone at home," an investigating officer told TOI. "He recorded the acts on his cellphone in several cases and used the footage to blackmail and repeatedly rape the women."

3. Mumbai: Man Arrested For Raping Wife’s Sister at Her Mother’s Funeral

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping his wife’s 16-year-old sister at her residence in Khar (East), where he had come to attend his mother-in-law’s funeral.

The girl lives with her father and a younger sister after her mother passed away in a road accident in Bandra-Kurla Complex a few days ago. According to the police, the accused lives in Rajkot, Gujarat and his wife lives at their native place in Uttar Pradesh.

The accused had come to Mumbai to attend her mother-in-law’s funeral. on Sunday, when the girl was sleeping beside her younger sister, the accused came and allegedly raped her, said the police. When her younger sister heard her cries, she woke up and tried to stop the accused. But she couldn’t as he assaulted her and made her sleep in another room.

4. Shots Fired Against TDP Leader Bhaskar Reddy; 3 Injured

Tension prevailed when YSRC leader Srinivas Reddy allegedly fired shots from his pistol towards TDP leader Bhaskar Reddy in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district on Thursday.

According to police, the incident happened near an agricultural field when both of them came face to face. Soon, tempers flared after few abuses were hurled at each other, Srinivas Reddy allegedly tried to shoot at Bhaskar Reddy. Immediately, TDP leaders – Bhaskar Reddy, his aides Gangi Reddy and Ramanadha Reddy scrammed for safety in the inside of agriculture fields. Around three persons suffered injuries due to the gunshots.

5. 20 Detained, CRPF Deployed in Belagavi Following Communal Clashes

More than 12 hours after violent communal clashes, normalcy has returned to Belagavi, in North Karnataka. Heavy police deployment continues across the city, where the winter session of the Karnataka legislative assembly is currently underway. Two companies of Central Armed Reserve Police (CRPF) were deployed in the city on 16 November, senior police officers said.

TG Krishna Bhat, Belagavi police commissioner, said that investigators have detained around 20 people in the case and interrogation of the suspects are currently underway.

6. Tamil Actor’s Son Arrested For Stalking, Harassing Medical Student

In yet another grim reminder that Chennai is becoming unsafe for women, the son of Tamil actor Bhuvaneshwari was arrested by the Thirumangalam police on Wednesday after the girl’s family filed a complaint that he had been harassing her, as per a report in The Times of India.

23-year-old Mithun Srinivasan is a third-year law student and had acted dangerously in the past on two previous occasions, the report states.

In the first instance, he had poured kerosene all around her house and tried to burn it down but was chased away after the family members and a few residents in the neighbourhood intervened.

7. CBI Arrests Former Shimla SP in Himachal Rape Case

The CBI on Thursday arrested DW Negi, the former Superintendent of Police of Shimla, in connection with its probe in the Kotkhai rape case in Himachal Pradesh, the agency sources said.

The SP is the ninth person to be arrested in this case by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

A 16-year-old girl had gone missing after school hours on July 4 from Haliala forest in the Kotkhai area of Shimla district.

Her naked body was found in the forest on 6 July and the post-mortem report confirmed rape. The rape case has created furore in the state which goes to polls later in 2017.

8. Man Takes Homemaker to Lodge, Rapes Her

A 25-year-old homemaker has alleged that she was raped several times by a Haveri businessman in a lodge at Cottonpet, central Bengaluru, and also at his relative's house in Tumakuru district.

The woman approached Haveri Rural police on 30 October and filed a case against the businessman, Marikumar Shankar Karadagi.

"Marikumar raped me at Chikkanayakanahalli and later took me to his house in Haveri. Marikumar's brother and brother-in-law abused me and assaulted me at his residence," she said in her complaint.

9. Builder Shot Dead in South Delhi

A 40-year-old builder was shot dead at the home of his former associate in south-west Delhi’s Mahavir Enclave on Wednesday night. The police are questioning the associate and his family members.

According to the police, Manmohan Dass, the brother of former Palam ward councillor Madan Mohan Dass, was at Sujit Ghosh’s house at the time of the incident.

“We received a call around 11.30 pm that a man had been shot dead. Mr Dass was on the ground. He had a gunshot injury on the temple,” said a police officer, adding that his licensed gun was lying next to the body and has been recovered.

10. Mumbai Driving School Makes 100 Appointments For Licences Using Same Number

The Borivli Regional Transport office (RTO) has initiated action against a motor training school for allegedly booking more than 100 appointments for driving licence using a single mobile number last month.

The RTO has issued a show-cause notice to Malvani-based motor training school and also filed a first Information Report (FIR) at MHB police station for misusing the facility. As per the rules, the appointment for driving licenses should be booked by the applicant himself or through his number.

RTO officials said they found more than 100 appointments for learning licences booked using one mobile number between 13 October and 31 October.
