CCD Founder VG Siddhartha’s Body Recovered Near Netravati River

Siddhartha, who is the son-in-law of former Karnataka CM SM Krishna, went missing on 29 July.

After hours of search operations, Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) founder and owner VG Siddhartha’s body was recovered on Wednesday, 31 July from the Netravati river near Hoige Bazaar in Mangaluru.

Siddhartha, who is the son-in-law of former Karnataka CM SM Krishna, went missing on 29 July.

The body had washed ashore near Ullal and was fished out by local fishermen, following which police reached the spot.

"A body has been found, which appears to be him. Final confirmation has to be done by the family," deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district Sasikanth Senthil told PTI.

Mangalore Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said Siddhartha's family has been informed and the body has been kept at Wenlock Hospital for further formalities.

A letter purportedly written by the CCD founder to all the employees surfaced a day before his body was recovered. The letter which was addressed to the “Board of Directors and Coffee Day family,” he alleged that he has been harassed at the hands of the Income Tax Department – and that he has “failed as an entrepreneur”.

The shares of Coffee Day Enterprises hit a 20 percent lower circuit on Tuesday after Siddhartha went missing.
