CBI Arrests Two For RTI Activist Premkant Jha’s Murder

The RTI activist was murdered in 2012.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two people in connection with death of RTI activist Premkant Jha in Mumbai, according to media reports. Both have been sent to police custody till January 18.

He was shot dead on 24 February 2012 in broad daylight when he was returning to his residence in Phoolpada residence located in Virar (East). His son Mihir had asked for the High Court to transfer the case to CBI from CID.

Jha’s other son Bipin told DNA:

My father had been working to expose several scams in the local civic body and had taken a firm stand against mafias who had political connections. He was killed in order to stop him from opening a can of worms.

The 42-year-old who was also the National Public Relations Officer of Bhrashtachar Atyachar Virodhi Samiti was killed when one of the bullets among the several rounds fired from a revolver hit his head.
