Hours after Union minister Arun Jaitley defended Smriti Irani over her educational qualifications and questioned Rahul Gandhi's degree, the Congress said that Cambridge offers M Phil straight from undergraduation.
Taking a dig at the Congress, which had accused Smriti Irani of submitting contradictory educational qualifications, Jaitley wrote in his blog, "One day, the focus would be on the BJP candidate's educational qualification, fully forgetting that a public audit of Rahul Gandhi's academic credentials may leave a lot to be answered. After all, he got an M.Phil without a Master’s degree."
The Congress, which was quick to respond to Jaitley’s remark, said, “FYI Jaitlie ji aka Blog Mantri ji, Cambridge offers M Phil straight from undergrad. What nobody offers is a degree in entire political science [sic].”
What Smriti Irani’s Affidavit Says
Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Amethi Lok Sabha seat Smriti Irani on Thursday, 11 April, submitted to the Election Commission that she did not complete her graduation from Delhi University.
In her affidavit filed during her nomination, Irani, who is contesting against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, said she passed secondary school examination in 1991 and senior secondary school examination in 1993.
She has also said she did not complete her Bachelor of Commerce (Part-I), a three-year degree course from Delhi University's School of Open Learning in 1994.
On Friday, Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi, in a press conference, took a dig at the Union minister, saying that a new serial, Kyunki Mantri Bhi Kabhi Graduate Thi, was going to hit the screens.

Further, the Congress brought up the Rafale row and questioned on whose behest the French government waived taxes worth 143 million euros for Anil Ambani.
In a fresh controversy over the Rafale deal, a French publication has reported that authorities in France waived off tax recovery worth 143.7 million euros from a French company belonging to Anil Ambani’s Reliance Group.
Le Monde claims these tax recoveries, which were relentlessly pursued by the French tax authorities for years, were dropped months after the Modi government negotiated the deal for 36 Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft, for which Anil Ambani was a major offset partner.
