Caller Threatens to Shoot Staff of J&K Publication Greater Kashmir

The Jammu bureau of Jammu and Kashmir newspaper Greater Kashmir was called by an unidentified person who threatened to shoot the entire staff of the publication on Sunday, 7 April.

According to Greater Kashmir, the person called the office landline from 06206370152, a cellphone number and abused the staff of the publication. He stated that he would enter the offices of the publication in Jammu and Srinagar and shoot all the employees.

“The Lok Sabha elections are soon going to take place and no one would be able to safeguard the lives of the staff,” the caller said.

Greater Kashmir has filed a complaint against the caller at Gandhi Nagar police station. The police have assured them the caller will be tracked down within a day, the report said.

Attempt to Browbeat Media Professionals: Abdullah

Former Chief Minister of J&K Omar Abdullah condemned the “attempt to browbeat media professionals” in a tweet, in which he said he hoped the police would conduct a speedy investigation into the matter.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti tweeted against the the caller, saying that this was a result of security cover of people being revoked.

Politican Sajad Lone tweeted, saying that it was a “regrettable” incident and expresed solidarity with the publication.

Economic commentator and Congress member Salman Anees Soz also tweeted against the threat issued to the publication.
