Two Buildings Collapse in Delhi-NCR, Claim Four Lives

Delhi-NCR witnessed two deadly collapses in the last 24 hours, claiming four lives in total. In Delhi’s Dwarka, the roof of a house collapsed on Monday, 23 July, killing a couple and injuring their three kids, PTI reported.

Earlier, a five-storey under-construction building collapsed in the Akash Nagar area in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on Sunday, 22 July, killing two people and injuring at least eight others. The rescue operations came to an end on 23 July, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said.

Ghaziabad Building Collapse: 2 Dead, NDRF Completes Rescue Operations

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), on 23 July, completed the rescue operations in the five-storey building that had collapsed in Ghaziabad. Two persons were reported dead due to the collapse and the eight injured have been rescued. The officials also announced that four supervisors of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) were suspended.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vaibhav Krishna told PTI that an FIR was lodged against the errant builders Kishan Pal Tomar and Mukesh Singh, along with Dinesh Kumar, the owner of the land on which the illegal construction was going on.

To probe the incident, a special investigating team (SIT) has been formed and legal action will be initiated against the culprits. The government officers who were hand-in-glove with the builders and the landowner will also face prosecution. They will be nabbed soon.

Two Dead, 3 Injured After Roof of Dwarka House Collapses

The roof of a house in Delhi's Dwarka area that had weakened over time with seepage collapsed in the early hours of 23 July morning, killing a couple and injuring their three children, the police told PTI.

The deceased have been identified as Sunil and his wife Rachna, both 40 years. Their kids: Vaibhav (19), Gulshan (16) and Gungun (9) have been admitted to the hospital.

One More Body Recovered from Rubble

One more body was recovered and two more persons were rescued from the site where a building collapsed in Ghaziabad's Missal Gadi on Sunday. Rescue operations are underway.

'Have Identified Four People and Will Take Them Into Custody': IG Meerut

Speaking about the rescue operations after the building collapse, Ram Kumar, IG Meerut, said:

Till now, we have recovered one body and rescued seven people. One more person is probably under the rubble, which will be cleared within 4-5 hours. We will file an FIR and take the harshest action against the culprits.

He further said that the land in question belonged to a builder, as per the relevant documents, and that the police have identified four people and are in the process of taking them into custody.

Earlier, district magistrate Ritu Maheshwari also said that an FIR will be registered and that the landowner and the builder will be booked under the National Security Act.

Stringent action will be taken against officers responsible for the illegal construction. The government will give Rs 2 lakh as ex-gratia to the family of the victim and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
