A day after Kanakadurga claimed she was attacked after she returned home from her Sabarimala journey on 15 January, her brother has a different story to tell.

He refuted her claim of being hit by her mother-in-law, saying this is just ‘pure drama.’ In a video sent to The Quint, her brother Bharathbushan claims that Kanakadurga entered the house with CPI(M) party workers and the police.

Thirty-nine-year-old Kanakadurga made history by being among the first two women to enter the Sabarimala temple on 2 January. But her welcome back home hasn’t been a happy one. Kanakadurga alleged that she had been attacked by her mother-in-law.

She has filed a complaint that her mother-in-law had hit her with a wooden plank and sustained a head injury, said Perinthalmanna police.

What Kanakadurga is saying about getting hit in the head by her mother-in-law is pure lies.

Kanakadurga and her mother-in-law had a verbal fight as their family wasn’t happy with her Sabarimala journey, said Perinthalmanna police to The Quint.

According to Kanakadurga’s friend, when she reached home on 15 January, her mother-in-law refused to let her inside the house. Nevertheless, she walked inside, which led to a verbal scuffle between the two.

The mother-in-law then beat her with a wooden plank on her head. The police, who were in the locality, had escorted Kanakadurga to the hospital immediately. She is presently undergoing further examination at the hospital.

Other Side of the Story

Bharathbushan, however, claims Kanakadurga came to her husband's house with four party workers and police at 7 am. At that time her husband, Krishnan Unni, had gone to the temple and her two kids were at tuition.

“Only her 80-year-old mother-in-law, Sumathi Amma, was at home. When she opened the door, Kanakadurga pushed her inside and she fell down. Kanakadurga then forcibly entered the house. That is when Amma was telling her not to enter when her husband is not at home, and while talking, she fell down and hit her head on the sofa,” he said. He claims that it was his sister who had attacked first.

CPI(M) Agenda at Play

Her brother claims foul play by CPI(M), headed by the Chief Minister Pinrayi Vijayan.

He said that when they had gone to the hospital to check on Kanakadurga, they saw CPI(M) local committee members Beena and Padmaja.

“I don't understand why CPI(M) is involved in this,” he adds.

Bharathbushan said that all this drama could have been avoided.

“I have even mailed the Malapuram SP, DGP, ADGP that they should inform the family before they bring her home, so that we can all discuss and decide what to do. But they never paid heed. That is why this problem even happened,” he said.

He also mentioned that CPI(M) committee member Padmaja was with Kanakadurga in her hospital room. He suspects that she would’ve given his sister shelter when Kanakadurga was away for her Sabarimala pilgrimage.

“She and her husband had met Kanakadurga's husband Krishnan Unni a few days back and told him that they need to talk and invite her back to their house, peacefully. I think she is the one who got the party members together,” he said.

What has Padmaja and this party CPI(M) gained by ruining a family ? Doesn’t Padmaja have her own family ? Why can’t she leave us alone ?

Bharathbushan said that they have received a number of threats as well.

“Her husband has even been threatened that he will lose his job. When the time comes, we will reveal all those who are threatening my brother-in-law,” he said.

If anyone wants to threaten me they are welcome to. But I just have to tell the people of Kerala, all that she did today was just fraud.

He also critiqued the media for not showing the story as a whole.

“All media has been showing Kanakadurga in (Government District) Perinthalmanna hospital, then Manjeri and then Kozhikode hospital. But no one has visited the poor aged woman in Perinthalmanna hospital whose back is all swollen and can't even express her agony. But no one is seeing any of that,” he added.
