Dipak Mahato, 27 and his father, Lalmohon Mahato, 52 were hacked to death in Purulia, West Bengal on Wednesday, 11 July. The state BJP has claimed, in a press release, that the two belonged to the OBC category and that they worked for the party in Turuhulu village. The party has alleged that the Trinamool Congress is to blame for the deaths since the father-son duo protested the TMC’s policies.However, local sources told The Quint that the two were killed in a clash between two families of Turuhulu village – in which four others also sustained serious injuries.BJP Blames TMCAccording to a BJP press release, the father-son duo had protested against TMC’s alleged corruption in the distribution of Miniket rice in their panchayat.In a tweet from the official account of BJP Bengal, the party alleged that the two were killed by goons from the TMC. Sources said that on 1 July, a heated argument brooke out between the two families over a land dispute. The clash turned bloody as both family members took out sharp weapons to attack each other.Six people from both sides sustained serious injury in the clash where later two - Deepak and Lalmohan Mahato - succumbed to injuries and died. The dead bodies were taken to Sadar Hospital in Purulia.There have been no arrests in the case.
