A BJP worker, identified as Chandan Shaw, was shot dead in West Bengal on night of Sunday, 26 May, in Bhatpara of North 24 Parganas district.

Shaw was shot dead in front of his house in the Katadanga area of Kakinara, Bhatpara.

Three men on a bike first hurled bombs at him, then shot him from close range. Shaw died on the spot.

Following this, BJP workers blocked roads in the area, demanding the arrest of the assailants. Security forces were deployed in the area to bring the situation under control. Investigation has been initiated in the matter.

Kakinara in Bhatpara has been tense since the bypolls in the constituency on 19 May, and has been seeing incidents of sporadic violence since.

This incident comes after another BJP worker Santu Ghosh was shot dead in West Bengal's Nadia district on 25 May.

Gosh, a resident of Tapaban area in Chakdaha town, was shot at from a close range after he went out of his house following a phone call. As a result, BJP leaders and workers staged a road blockade on National Highway 34.

General Secretary of Nadia BJP Committee, Tarak Sarkar, after the incident had said that the Trinamool Congress is behind the incident.

However, the TMC leaders had denied the allegation.
