The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) announced on Tuesday, 19 June that they were calling it quits with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Following the BJP’s call for Governer’s rule in the state, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tendered her resignation to Governor Narinder Nath Vohra.
The BJP blamed the split on the PDP’s inability to “control growing tension in the state”.

Some social media users speculated that this was an orchestrated move ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while other users said the split was a birthday gift to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi (who celebrated his birthday on 19 June).
