Assamese actress and singer Bidisha Bezbaruah, who was last seen in a Bihu song in Jagga Jasoos, allegedly committed suicide under mysterious circumstances. Her body was found at her residence in the posh Sushant Lok area of Gurugram on Monday evening, police said. On Wednesday morning, Bidisha’s husband Nisheet Jha was arrested for abetment to suicide.
According to a report in The Hindu, Bezbaruah’s brother Kaushik alleged that she had a strained relationship with her husband after she learned of an extra-marital affair. The report also mentions that the two had mutually decided to shift to Delhi to give their marriage another chance. However, Jha went to Mumbai for work and did not return.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Deepak Saharan said Bezbaruah’s father claimed in his complaint that she would often have quarrels with her husband. He had reportedly informed police that she had not been taking his calls.
Her father suspected something foul as she was not picking up the phone on Monday evening. He approached police and gave details of her local address
When police reached the spot, the main gate and the door were locked from inside. The police team broke open the door and found her hanging, Saharan said.
No suicide note was recovered from her possession and her body has been handed over to her family after a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, her phone, Facebook and social media conversations are being examined by investigating teams.
A native of Assam, Bezbaruah was a well known TV personality who had also hosted several stage shows.
