Nine BHU Students, Detained En Route PM’s Residence, Released

They were on the way to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to submit a memorandum of their demands.

The nine Benaras Hindu University students, who were arrested in Delhi on 28 September, were released by the police.

The BHU students were detained as they were on their way to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to submit a memorandum of their demands. They were detained at the Chanakyapuri station.

They were on the way to the Prime Minister’s residence from Jantar Mantar after meeting officials of the National Commission for Women (NCW).

The group, including a female student, was allegedly detained without the presence of any female police officer and was not told why they were being detained in the first place.

We are detained in Chankyapuri station without giving us a cause of arrest. We met the NWC and were seeking an appointment with the PM and with the HRD Minister. As we did not get an appointment from the PM, we were going to give a memorandum to his secretary but were under surveillance and were detained from the road... I was the only female in this and again there was no female police official when they detained me.
