The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha re-elected Bhaiyyaji Joshi as the Sarkaryvaha (general secretary) of the organisation for a term of three years in Nagpur, on Saturday, 10 March, News18 reported.

The top decision making body elected Joshi, the second-in-command of the influential right- wing outfit, implying no change in the RSS leadership for the fourth time.

Bhaiyyaji Joshi had been re-elected as RSS general secretary for a period of three years. In view of huge progress in his tenure, reelection was mooted. In Hindu culture, 12 years is an important period. So four office bearers supported it and, since no other name came up, we reelected Bhaiyyaji Joshi.

In the RSS hierarchy, a general secretary is the second-most powerful post after Sarsanghchalak, and mainly supervises the organisation’s activities, including the Sangh’s relationship with other organisations, News 18 reported.

Any change in this position implies a change in the outfit’s interaction with the ruling party.

According to News18, Joshi has been in office for nine years now, with his term having being extended twice after his nomination in 2009. The RSS pracharak from Karnataka earlier worked as organisation secretary of the RSS’ students wing, the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyathi Parishad (ABVP).

Joshi is known for his organisational skills and astute planning, PTI reported.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had also worked as Sarkaryawah under KS Sudarshan before assuming the top post.
