The Thak Thak gang, operational in the Delhi National Capital Region manages to steer the media once in a while.

The gang, known for its subtle ways, distracts car owners to rob them, and disappear before the owner can  possibly take notice.

I was driving my car and it was around 6:15 PM when I joined the slow moving traffic heading towards Kalkaji Mandir/Nehru Place. As I was about to cross the NSIC bus stop, I noticed two persons walking and approaching my car from the co-driver’s side trying to cross the road. Just as I passed through, suddenly one of them started banging on the front left door and presented as if his foot came under my car. The other person soon followed and started banging rear left window. He claimed that I’ve driven over the first person’s foot and both demanded to open the window/door while continuously banging on the windows. I panicked and pressed the button on my side to lower the co-driver window to hear them and to know what exactly happened. This was the biggest MISTAKE!

On February 5 2015, Delhi police had arrested 9 members of the Thak Thak gang, according to a report on Business Standard.

Gang members Perumal (50), Kumaran B (43), Renganathan (40), Prabakar (34), Muthu Kumar (30), Stalin (26), Saravana Kumar (25), Loganathan (24), and Akilan (23) were arrested from west Delhi’s Mukarba Chowk.

All the arrested gang members hail from Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu and have committed dozens of incidents of bag-lifting from cars in Delhi and Chandigarh by diverting the attention of the occupants after throwing currency notes on roads.

But that did not deter the notorious gang. CCTV footage obtained on April, 2015 showed that the gang re-entred the city.

Delhi people, beware, the next time you hear a tap on the window of your vehicle, think twice before rolling it down.
