1. Three-Year-Old Who Survived Ejipura Building Collapse Dies

The miracle baby, Sanjana, who was rescued from the rubble of her collapsed home in Ejipura passed away on Thursday evening. Rescue personnel had pulled Sanjana out of the rubble almost three hours after a suspected cylinder blast brought down a portion of the building claiming the lives of her parents S Saravanan (27) and Ashvini (23).

Three-year-old Sanjana had sustained 60 percent burn injuries and was undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the burns ward at Victoria Hospital.

With Sanjana’s death, the total death toll in the building collapse on Tuesday now has gone up to eight.

“Even 10 percent burn injuries are considered extremely critical and life threatening in paediatric cases. We tried our best and there was a medical team that was constantly by her side for three days but we could not save her. We declared her dead on Thursday afternoon,” said one of the doctors attending her at the Victoria Hospital burns ward.

2. Tender Plea for a POD

The BBMP seems to have moved on from potholes and rains, and is now focussing its energies on the Pod project. Now, it is all set to call for global tenders to put in place pod taxis in the city. BBMP says the tender will be called for within two months.

After scientists from the Centre for Infrastructure Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning (CiSTUP) of the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) cleared the idea of a Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system in the city, BBMP is all set to put its Pod plans into motion.

BBMP sources told Mirror, “We have already sent the request letter to DULT for the preparation of tender documents for the project. As DULT is an expert on this issue, it will formulate a proper tender break-up after which the project will be approved by the government.”

3. Stunt Performing Biker Kills Girl

A seven-year-old girl was killed when a bike rider knocked her down allegedly while attempting some bike stunts at Maranayakanahalli Colony in Chikkajala on Thursday evening.

However, the police said the stretch of the road did not have sufficient width to perform such a stunt. Sahana was standing outside her house watching fireworks for Deepavali.

Meanwhile, the accused, identified as Raju, a neighbour, lost control over the bike and knocked down the victim. Sahana sustained multiple injuries and a few bystanders rushed her to a private hospital where she succumbed to her injuries later. Sensing trouble, Raju abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Chikjajala traffic police rushed to the spot and detained a friend of Raju who was a witness to the accident.

4. KSRP Falls in Line With Centre's Directives of Able Officers

Six-pack abs, chiseled chest, bulging biceps and quaking quads. We aren’t talking about the Dabangg Salman Khan or a Mr Universe but your friendly neighbourhood policeman in the near future.

The Karnataka State Reserve Police has taken the lead in this regard and hopes to add some more muscle to its force. To start with, it has set up a multispecialty gym – at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore – at its campus in Koramangala.

“The facility will be maintained and operated like any professional multi-gym. The governments both at the Centre and the state are now viewing physical fitness as one of the topmost priorities for police personnel to ensure maximum efficiency,” said Bhaskar Rao, Additional Director General of Police, KSRP.

The Bengaluru Urban district administration has served notices to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, SN Hospital and owners of 69 other properties for encroaching on government land at Ideal Home township in Rajarajeshwari Nagar.

Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner V Shankar said the move followed high court orders. “The high court asked us to give the property owners a chance to provide an explanation. Accordingly, the assistant commissioner served notices on the parties,” he told DH.

6. GST on Handmade Items: Chief Minister Siddaramaih Lends Helping Hand

The ongoing indefinite hunger strike called by the Gramma Seva Sangha seeking zero percent tax on hand-made products has been called off after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured protestors that he would take up the matter at the next Goods and Service Tax (GST) Council meeting.

Prasanna of Gramma Seva Sangha said, “After much hue and cry, the government has exempted khadi products, but tax is still being levied on handmade products. This is atrocious as the tax will discourage manufacturers of such products from competing in the marketplace as the prices of handmade products are already high. We will continue the agitation till the government addresses our issue.”
