Geethanjali, a 27-year-old IT professional, fell to her death on Wednesday from the 10th floor of her office building in Cessna Business Park in Bengaluru. According to the Marathahalli police, it seems likely that she had planned her suicide, in accordance with what they found in the search history from her phone.
According to The News Minute, the police found that she had been looking up ways to commit suicide.
We found that she had searched for most effective ways to commit suicide and had looked for tablets. She had searched for their names and the quantity that should be consumed to kill oneself. All these emerged from the internet search history of her cellphone.The police told Times of India
Geethanjali, an engineer employed in Adva Optical Networking located in the Business Park in Kadubeesanahalli, fell from the building at around 11:30 am.
The reasons for this possible suicide are still unknown, though there is a chance that it may have something to do with her recent engagement. Geethanjali had gotten engaged in Goa on Tuesday, which incidentally happened to be her birthday as well.
According to reports, she had applied for two days of leave and returned to Bengaluru on Wednesday morning at 8:30 am. Instead of going home, she had boarded a bus to office. She had even called up her aunt at 12:05 pm to inform her that she had reached office.
However, when the police later approached her colleagues about her whereabouts on the day, they said she hadn’t come into office that day.
The reason the police are linking her suicide to the engagement is because they had unearthed pictures of the engagement from her phone and subsequent text messages to her colleagues about it.
We suspect Geetanjali might have been forced into this engagement. Her parents did not say anything about the bridegroom, though they were asked about him.A police officer told Times of India
Abdul Ahad, deputy commissioner of police (Whitefield division), said she did commit suicide and there was no foul play.
From preliminary investigation, it appears Geethanjali was upset about her engagement with this particular person and not willing to get married to him. We have not been able to find out the exact reason as her parents are not talking. We hope to get more clarity on this in a day or two.Abdul Ahad, Whitefield DCP told Times of India
Umesh, a security guard stationed outside the office building, was the first to see Geethanjali fall.
I was standing on duty at the ground floor as usual and I saw her fall to the floor. It happened all of a sudden. I was shocked and I immediately informed the facility manager of the business park.Umesh, security guard
Ganesh, the facility manager of Cessna Business Park, said that he had then arranged for Geethanjali to be taken to hospital by ambulance. He said:
I went to the spot and it looked like she was already dead. I immediately called 108 for an ambulance. We waited for a while but no ambulance was there. The Flipkart company is right next to Adva so we got the employee into the Flipkart Ambulance and took her to Sakra Hospital.
Upon arriving at Sakra Hospital, Ganesh informed the Marathahalli Police who took the body for an autopsy.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death, and hope to obtain a clearer picture once Geethanjali’s family members have been interviewed.
Her colleagues said that she is from Goa, but also has a brother who lives in Bengaluru. We have informed her parents, who will be coming to Bengaluru as soon as possible. Her brother has also been informed.Nagaraj, Sub Inspector of the Marathahalli Police Station.
